Munich in Germany

Ein paar Weisswürst und ein Weissbier, bitte! A pair of white sausages and a beer is a common first meal of the day, if you live in München (Engl. Munich) or in fact the whole of Bayern (Engl. Bavaria). And where better to stand and eat this classic on a Summer's morning than at the Viktualienmarkt. Literally a food 'village' just a few steps from the city centre at Marienplatz. At its heart a Biergarten and around that a maze of small huts selling a variety of snacks or food produce.

Once full and fit for the day, Munich awaits. It is a beautiful city to wander around. The Italian styled Maximillianstrasse with its high-end boutiques, tranquility in the Hofgarten, the expanse of the Englishergarten, all can be reached on foot from Marienplatz. Alternatively, explore the banks of the Isar River. You will find many park areas, especially to the south, where in Summer BBQ's and paddling are in full swing. Unsure of the way back to the centre, just look for the two towers of the Frauenkirche and head in that direction. If you tire, then a cafe is sure to be close, where you can rest for Kaffee und Kuchen (coffee and cake), another classic.
