The Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany

München or Munich in Germany is home to the annual Oktoberfest or 'Wiesn.' Held in September on an area known as the Theresienwiese, the Oktoberfest generates an atmosphere that lies somewhere between pandemonium and a pleasent family event. This atmosphere comes from the noise and energy of the fairground rides, the cheers and singing from the enormous beer tents and the masses of people who come to seek entertainment. Each can find their pleasure or nemeisis at the festival. Be that at the stalls offering food from candy to smoked steckerlfisch or from the litres of strong Festbier served in the Hippodrom or other vast beer tents. To the sound of Oompaah music, thousands of people sing, dance and raise their Masskrug to drink together. The toast of 'prost!' can be heard across the many tables and aisles between. Those who underestimated this beer are often sprawled out on the floor at noon or seen staggering towards a daring ride, Dutch courage powering them on. Naturally when visiting the festival, a pair of Lederhosen or a Dirndl is de rigueur. These clothes are often passed down through generations of family, they are treasured items brought out to enjoy the unique spectacle  of the Oktoberfest.
